Metafields Guru now works inside Shopify Sidekick. Instead of clicking through the app to find an answer, just ask Sidekick in plain words: "Which metafield sets do I have for products?", "Will this export use credits?", "Why did yesterday's import fail?" or "Which metafields does my theme show?". Sidekick reads your Metafields Guru setup, answers in seconds, and hands you a link to open the exact page in the app.

The Metafields Guru browser extension has been updated to version 4.1.1 for Chrome and Firefox. It now fits Shopify's new admin layout, and it plays nicely with Sidekick and other side panels that open on the right - the extension moves aside instead of hiding behind them. Keep editing metafields right on the product, order, or customer page, with Sidekick open next to it.

Editing a metaobject entry that uses one of Shopify's standardized product attributes - fields like Base color, Age group, or Fit - used to mean staring at a meaningless code instead of an actual value. Not anymore: those fields now show the real, readable name, and a color swatch whenever the attribute is a color, so you can pick "Beige" by seeing it, not by guessing from an ID.

Metafields Guru now supports Shopify's standard metafield definitions. Open Metafield sets, switch to the Definitions tab, click Add standard field, and turn on the built-in fields Shopify already knows about - product rating, care guide, UPC/EAN/ISBN, related products, and dozens more - without ever leaving the app.

Metafields Guru now supports three more families of Shopify metafield types end to end: the complete measurement family (every unit type Shopify offers, not just weight, dimension, and volume), order reference metafields (single values and lists), and the language metafield type. Every one of them works across the metafields editor, the Excel-like editor, the bulk editor, CSV import/export, metafield sets, and the browser extension - and the measurement and language types also render on the storefront through the Text / HTML theme blocks.

In April 2025, Metafields Guru shipped a major refresh of its HTML editor and added new filtering options across the app. Images pasted into the WYSIWYG HTML editor now upload straight to Shopify Files instead of living inside the metafield value, editors gained a pin-to-screen mode, and customers and pages picked up the same metafield-based filters that products and collections already had.

In January 2025, Metafields Guru added metafield-based filtering and search for products, so you can narrow down your catalog by metafield value and combine that with bulk editing, exporting, or the Excel-like editor. The same update introduced a more precise date range filter across every resource in the app.

In March 2024, Metafields Guru introduced theme extensions - ready-made storefront blocks for displaying metafield values without writing Liquid. The same release upgraded the export/import feature to support metafield data migration between stores, including reference metafields and external file uploads to Shopify's storage, and added the ability to convert plain string values for complex types like volume and dimensions into proper JSON objects.

In January 2024, Metafields Guru shipped a major upgrade to the Excel-like editor's multi-row workflow. Editing or copying several rows at once now preserves formatting across every metafield type, from simple text to lists of dimensions with mixed units. The update also added copy-paste support for the spreadsheet tools merchants already use - Google Docs, Excel, Numbers, OneDrive, and LibreOffice.
