Metafields Guru pricing

Metafields Guru has a free plan and four paid tiers. Every plan is billed per store through Shopify's billing, in USD, monthly or yearly. Every paid plan unlocks the full feature set - the tiers differ only in bulk-action limits, import file size and the number of metafield sets. Bulk edits and CSV import/export run on app credits for any resource type whose count is over your plan's limit, and for all bulk actions on the free plan.

What each plan includes​

Rookie - free forever​

The free plan, for manual, day-to-day metafield work. It is genuinely useful on its own:

• Basic metafields editor - supports every metafield type, for every resource, with no usage limits
• Metaobjects editor - same, free and unlimited
• Rich HTML editor for multi-line text values: visual formatting and styles, YouTube embeds, a source-code view with syntax highlighting, and direct Shopify Files integration - upload images straight to Shopify from the editor, or pick ones you already have
• JSON editor with live validation and syntax highlighting
• Advanced color picker for color-type metafields
• Bulk editor and CSV import/export on an app-credit basis, with a 50 MB import file-size cap
• Not included: Excel-like editor, theme extensions, browser extension, metafield definitions, metafield sets, Shopify Flow

Adept - $9/mo or $90/yr​

Every advanced tool unlocked, sized for smaller catalogs.

The same tools as Adept, with higher limits for regular bulk work on mid-size catalogs.

Guru Plus - $59/mo or $590/yr​

The same tools again, with the highest standard limits, for large catalogs.

For large stores and complex setups that need limits tailored to them.

Feature comparison​

What your plan never limits​

Two different things get called "unlimited" here - worth keeping apart:

Truly unlimited, on any paid plan:

• Metaobjects and store (shop) metafields - bulk actions on these have no entity limit at all, however many the store has.

Not separately counted - they ride on their parent resource's count:

• Product variants don't have their own limit. A variant bulk action counts against the products entity count, not a separate variant count - so it's free as long as the store's product count is under the plan's limit, whatever the variant count is. See the variants example above.
• Draft orders work the same way, against the orders count.

So even the Adept plan lets you bulk-edit every metaobject in the store for free, and bulk-edit variants for free as long as the underlying product count stays under 2,000.

Cheapest way to get the tools​

If you don't need bulk actions and only want the resource-count-independent tools - the Excel-like editor, theme extensions, browser extension and metafield definitions support - the $9/mo Adept plan is enough. It unlocks them no matter how many records the store has or which Shopify plan it is on, up to and including Shopify Plus.

App credits​

App credits are a virtual currency for running bulk actions on a resource type that is over your plan's entity limit, or any bulk action on the Rookie plan.

• Price: 1 app credit = $0.001 USD; 1,000 app credits = $1.00 USD. Buy between 1,000 and 500,000 credits per transaction.
• When they're used: bulk edits and CSV import/export on the Rookie plan, or on any resource type whose count in the store is over your paid plan's limit.
• They don't expire and are not lost if you uninstall the app - purchased and free credits stay on your store.

How credits are counted​

The examples below show the cost formula itself, for whenever an operation is running on app credits (Rookie plan, or a resource type over your paid plan's limit). On a paid plan, metaobjects and store (shop) metafields never reach this formula - they're never billed in credits, so the shop-metafields example applies to Rookie/Sandbox, not to a paid plan's own metaobjects and shop metafields.

Sandbox mode​

There is no separate free trial. Because of Shopify's own rules, paid plans and app-credit purchases are only available on live (paid) stores - so development, trial and Partner stores get Sandbox Mode instead, free for as long as the store stays on a development, trial or Partner plan:

• Enabled automatically for eligible stores
• Full access to every feature that isn't tied to store resource counts - the Excel-like editor, theme extensions, browser extension, metafield definitions and 50 metafield sets
• Excluded: bulk actions and Shopify Flow. The 1,000 free app credits every store receives let you test bulk actions in Sandbox Mode; Shopify Flow is not available in Sandbox Mode at all.
• Together this lets you build and test with the whole app except Shopify Flow while the store is in development

If a sandbox store needs bigger limits​

Because these stores can't be charged, there are two ways to lift the limits - open a ticket after either:

1. Buy a plan on another store that is on a paid Shopify plan, and we'll mirror that plan onto your development store for free.
2. Buy app credits on a store that is on a paid Shopify plan, and we'll move those purchased credits to any other store of yours. (The free 1,000 credits can't be moved.)

Billing, upgrades and cancellation​

• Per store, in USD, through Shopify. Each paid plan is a recurring 30-day or annual Shopify charge. Yearly billing is two months free - you pay for ten months and get twelve (about 17% off).
• Change any time. Upgrade, downgrade or turn off auto-renewal whenever you want; Shopify prorates the current period.
• Shopify runs the payments. Our app can't initiate a charge, switch a plan or buy credits on its own - every payment goes through Shopify's standard app-subscription policy, the same one that applies to all apps.
• Uninstalling doesn't pause or extend your subscription. The billing period runs to the same end date whether the app is installed or not. Uninstalling switches auto-renewal off, so the plan won't renew at the end of the current period unless you turn it back on; the plan itself stays assigned and works again as soon as you reinstall. App credits - purchased and free - stay on your store.

Frequently asked questions​

Is there a free trial?​

There is no separate trial period. Development, trial and Partner stores get Sandbox Mode instead - full access to every feature that isn't tied to store resource counts, plus the 1,000 free app credits for testing bulk actions. Shopify Flow is the only thing you can't try this way.

Why can't I activate a paid plan on my development or trial store?​

Shopify doesn't allow paid app charges - or app-credit purchases - on development, trial or Partner stores. Those stores get Sandbox Mode and 1,000 free app credits instead. If you need larger limits, see If a sandbox store needs bigger limits.

What happens if I exceed my plan's bulk limit?​

Once the store's count for a resource type goes over your plan's limit, every bulk edit and CSV import/export on that resource type is charged in app credits at the standard rate for the whole operation - not just the entities above the limit. Credits can't raise the import file-size cap or run Shopify Flow past its limit: a CSV above the cap has to be split or the plan upgraded, and Flow stops for a resource type once the store passes the limit.

How do I get custom or multi-store pricing?​

Submit a ticket. For a single large store, describe the limits you need - bulk entity limits, metafield-set count and import file size - and we'll configure a Guru Custom plan. If you run several separate or regional stores, we'll put together a multi-store deal with a discount across all of them.
